All deep cover agents are ordered to break off from current assignments and head to www.TrueCrime.com to scope out and gather intel on Activision Publishing, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) upcoming open-world/action game True Crime®: Hong Kong. Inspired by classic Hollywood and Asian cinema style thrillers, fans can dive deep into Hong Kong’s Triad criminal underbelly and gain access to the latest True Crime news, assets, promotions, and more! The new web site also reveals the first details on some of the project’s Hong Kong Cinema and Hollywood talent, further underscoring developer United Front Games’ (UFG) commitment to delivering a game experience that looks, feels and plays like a true Hong Kong action flick. Additionally, fans should be sure to track True Crime on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/TrueCrime, on Twitter at http://twitter.com/TrueCrimegame, and on YouTube at www.youtube.com/TrueCrime.

As a newly hired thug within the Triad organisation, undercover detective Wei Shen must do whatever it takes to stay undetected and survive, balancing his moral duty as a cop with the objectives of the assignment. In order to ascend the ranks of the underworld, gamers will engage in visceral, fast-paced martial arts combat and explosive gunfights, along with high-octane driving sequences and acrobatic free-running chases as they go deeper and deeper undercover.

True Crime’s story takes players on a roller coaster ride through the game’s vast, action-packed open-world Hong Kong setting, introducing handfuls of intriguing characters in a truly unique and dangerous city. Lending more authenticity to the game’s narrative and further bringing True Crime’s characters to life, Activision and UFG have enlisted the voice over skills of top Hong Kong cinema and Hollywood talent, including Tom Wilkinson, James Hong, James Liao, Byron Mann, Dustin Nguyen, George Cheung and Sammo Hung to name a few. Additional True Crime cast details will be revealed soon enough, however, gamers can head over to www.TrueCrime.com today for all the latest and greatest info, and make their best guesses at what remaining talent is yet to be debuted.

Go undercover and “become one of them” with True Crime, currently in development for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows®. The game is yet to be rated by PEGI.

Peacekeepers beware! The five-part animated mini-series for “Crackdown 2” rages on today with the third episode, titled “The Virus: What We Know.” Peeling back the layers to uncover the mystery surrounding the Freak virus, this episode reveals the Agency’s Public Service Announcement that’s vital to surviving a Freak attack and infection. Before you embark on your tour of duty as an Agent in “Crackdown 2” when the title releases exclusively for Xbox 360 on July 9, 2010 in Europe, be sure to check out what you’re up against.

Ravaging civilians through bite, burn or scratch, the virus acts incredibly fast to attack, divide and mutate human tissues, creating Freaks of all shapes and sizes…and odours. To keep from falling victim to the Freaks, civilians better listen carefully or suffer the consequences:

Episode 3: The Virus: What We Know

The best weapon against infection: Vigilance. See a Freak or infection, report it!

The telltale signs of infection: Unresponsiveness, redness around the eyes, pronounced veins and a distinctive odour.

To ward off a Freak: Scream, confuse it, use big gestures or play dead.

The Freaks’ vulnerability: Light – but the sun won’t always be on your side.

Written by Ruffian Games senior designer, Ed Campbell, and animated by seasoned comic artist and illustrator, Alex Ronald, this telling mini-series chronicles the events that have transpired between the Xbox 360 smash hit “Crackdown” and the highly anticipated sequel, “Crackdown 2.” The highly stylised mini-series tells the tale of the Agency and its fight against new enemies called the Cell (an underground resistance) and the Freaks (mutated civilians ravaging the city).

The five-part animated mini-series will conclude on June 21, 2010.

well I just got done watching the Sport relief Football match. For those not in the know it was a mixture of celebrities and retired footballers playing football to raise money. It really is a great event for a great cause, but it couldn’t get me thinking how much of a disservice the video game industry has dealt us by not making a satisfying celebrity death match game. The MTV show was quality, but as usually happens with translations of this type of game it was dross.

And what got me yearning for a celbrity death match game… simple Dermot O’leary. No one male presenter could annoy me more, his stupid gormless expressions prior to him speaking like some chimpanzees love child, gibberish regardless of context and continually repeated in the hope of being fed a banana

Nothing like good old British talent

And the programme got even worse as now for some unknown reason we have to see James Corden at every turn. Who? Well I’m suprised you don’t know who he his but here’s a short bio. The fat bloke off Gavin and Stacey who did a comical skit for an England team talk and so in English television logic means he has to be put on every sport related program in history. The fact that tubby Corden was probably last to be chosen for footy and then stuck in nets obviously makes him well qualified to comment on the sport.

Oh he’s a West Ham fan you say? Well yes he is but surely there’s another hammers fan they could have chosen to add a bit of east end charm. Danny Dyer? Perhaps not.

Imagine a celebrity death match game where you could download celebrities and see them butchered in all the plasticine glory. I’m sure you have your own favourite darlings that you could envisage getting a swift kick in the balls. And let’s not be prejudice here there’s no need for testicles in the world of celebrity death match. Jo Whiley, Sara Cox, Zoe ball, heck any one who has ever hosted on Radio 1 with their “I can’t be bothered, but I want you to know I’m cool by not being bothered, so err I really am bothered what you think.”

If it wasn’t for gaming and films then I’d seriously contemplate getting rid of my television.

The program eventually ended and it really was for a good cause, but I felt more sorry for the townships that they had to have their lives inflicted by Cat Deeley than the horrendous effects of Polio.

That was the highlight of weekend viewing to be honest, other than that was the tosh that is the video game show. Why do they even bother? it’s about as current as the crimean war. My poison of choice was Bravo’s Gameface, so cringeworthy was the programme that I turned it off precisely after the presenter started to speak. She was atrocious filled with cliche upon cliche speaking in pseudo 15 year old, and having the visual appeal of a rabbid dog. Just cancel the program and don’t repeat the mistake. Show re runs of Game Master and be done with it. There is and was nothing better than that show with regards to video games so we should just get the chance to rejoice that once they listened and got the formula right.

TV is set to get better with the advent of the world cup, but let’s hope to God Dermot O’ leary and his ilk are confined to the realms of ITV2.

Quite a few weekends each month you will see me scouring the car boots, generally looking for bargain games and the odd Star Wars figure that may be unearthed by a good rummage in the action figure boxes that lie under many a wall paper pasting table. It’s not rare to see DVDs on sale which are not the most legitimate, but this week there was a stall brazen in selling pirated games. They weren’t covered by towels or another front of marketeering; they were just there. Around the stall which had on sale DS games, 360 games in addition to unlocking PSPs was a constant group of about 10 – 15 people.

It got me thinking 2 things piracy is big business and people seem more than happy to pay for it.

Rather than condemn these actions; as you’ll find countless articles on that topic, we should perhaps try to understand what motivates the buyer and see how the games industry can act to combat this.

Within the music industry the advent of the MP3 format left the industry for dust and they very much were seen to close the gate after the horse had bolted, but the videogame industry still stands on a knife point. It isn’t as rampant as it is in other media such as music and film, but companies should act now to ensure that they make the most advantage from this.

Price point could definitely be argued is the main reason for piracy. The average game costs £39.99 and although developers will argue this offers value, it surely has some bearing on prejudicing a physical format and having that physical product sold by retailers who want to make their own profit.

Offering a digital format could combat this price issue as well as removing the ‘sell on’ of games to shops for pre owned which companies make no return on. Digital formats are currently available through xbox live for older titles, but this is generally older titles and even though xbox live would argue it had a large community compared to online as a whole it is a small percentage so the digital format offered via this method is reaching a narrow audience.

Surely a subscription to approved sites offering all titles would be more advantageous for both the developer and consumer. Imagine an iTunes, but for videogames. PC users will immediately shout ‘Steam’ and it’s a valid shout as it changed the way PC gamers in the main accessed games.

The one thing that will never be eradicated is piracy. From the days of copying songs off the radio and recording tapes using high speed dubbing, copying media has been in existence. Some will always want something for nothing, but in order to lessen piracy we have to give consumer a way of accessing software in a variety of ways.

The second reason which could explain the interest in pirate games from the likes of car boots and the Internet is the immediacy of the titles, and the convenience of getting them. The need to have something now is not just a facet of videogame releases and more a pandemic of the society we live. I am sure people buying these titles for a fiver will buy them just to see what they are like and because of the cheap price they do not feel they are losing much should the game turn out to be tosh.

So could pricing be more creative? Could they not get a trial licence for the full game? Digital renting if you will or if you know you will very rarely play the game could there not be a minimal pay per play option.

Piracy is ultimately harmful to the industry. The old adage that you would not load up your trolley in a super market and walk out without paying is as true now as it ever was, but simply saying ‘no it’s wrong end of’ will not solve the situation it will entrench parties of opposing view obliterating any chance of a solution. Piracy is obviously in demand as people wouldn’t do it if they didn’t want to, but surely if the gaming community can get their collective thinking hats on they can develop an ‘iTunes of gaming’ offering a more credible option for those who want a more instant immediate and cheaper option within video games.
